OPAL F. MAULDIN

Opal Futrell Mauldin, 90, passed away Thursday at Wayne Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, followed by a graveside service at 3 p.m. in Wayne Memorial Park, with the Rev. Mike Williams and the Rev. Dock Hobbs officiating.

Opal was born in Wayne County Jan. 17, 1919, to the late Arthur Futrell and Susan Tilton Futrell. She was married to the late William Eldred Mauldin of Thomaston, Ga.

Opal retired from Belk and the state of North Carolina after many years of service.

She was a long-time member of Free Chapel Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church.

Opal is survived by her son, James Roy "Jimmy" Mauldin of New Orleans, La.; special friend, Sondra Heacock of Clayton; sister-in-law, Irene Futrell of Goldsboro; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Eldred Mauldin; her sister, Bethena Kennedy; and her brother, Rodney Futrell.
