MARY H.P. MERRITT

Mary Helon Pickett Merritt, 86, passed away Monday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by her family.
A graveside service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park, with the Rev. Larry Bostian and the Rev. Vernon Braswell officiating.
Mrs. Merritt was born in Durham County to the late Walter L. Pickett and Minnie Cole Pickett. She was married to the late Earl White Merritt.
Mrs. Merritt was an active member of Rosewood First Baptist Church, where she was member of the Golden Agers.
Mrs. Merritt is survived by her daughters, Donna Adams, Deborah Johnson and husband, Dennis, Deidre M. Kleinert and husband, Tom, Diane M. Hill and husband, Mark, all of Goldsboro; her son, David Merritt and wife, Theresa, of Goldsboro; her sisters, Laverne Tilley and husband, Malcolm, of Durham, Bird Durham and husband, Mebane, of Chapel Hill and Affie Collins of Franklinton; her brother, Donald Pickett and wife, Faith, of Georgia; her grandchildren, Duff Lane, Todd Lane, Keith Lane, Mike Merritt, Steve Merritt, Chris Hux, Jason Hux, Patrick Hux, Katie White and Stephanie Hill; 18 great grandchildren; and her special granddog, Sophie.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, W.L. Pickett, Phillip Pickett, Leroy Pickett, Macks Pickett and Burle Pickett; her sisters, Marjorie Turner and Jane Lloyd; and her special friend, Thomas "Pinky" Thames.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at her home.
