Samuel Gordon Clarke, 78, departed this life Tuesday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with visitation following, with Bill Garner and Billy Britt officiating. Burial will be at Montgomery Memorial Park in London, W. Va., at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

Gordon was born in Charleston, W.Va., March 3, 1931, to Leonard Gordon Clarke and Marguerite Lyons Clarke. He was married to Martha Thompson Clarke for almost 59 years.

He served in the United States Air Force.

Gordon had served as pastor for 53 years in Friends churches in Indiana, California and North Carolina. He was currently serving as pastor of Rhodes Friends Church of Mount Olive.

In addition to his wife, Gordon is survived by a son, Daniel Gordon Clarke of Schaumburg, Ill.; a grandson, Jordan Matthew Clarke; a great-granddaughter, Kendall Jordan Clarke; and his brother, David Keith Clarke.

A son, David Allen Clarke, preceded him in death.
