RETHA R. 'VICKY' JONES

June 5, 1958-Sept. 11, 2009

"The Lord is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble, and he knoweth them that trust Him. Nahum 1:7"

Late in the afternoon Friday, God sent an angel to Wayne Memorial Hospital, knowing how much we can bear, and touched Vicky, a devoted daughter, mother, sister and friend, relieving her of pain and suffering. We realize God's will is done because He's too wise to make a mistake.

Retha Rovenia Jones, better known to many as Vicky, daughter of Bessie L. Jones and Hosea Daniels, was born June 5, 1958, in Goldsboro.

She was educated in the Wayne County school system and graduated from Goldsboro High School in 1976.

Retha worked as a teacher assistant for a short time at Goldsboro High School until she realized that she had a great gift for styling and caring for hair. She enrolled in Lenoir Community College's Cosmetology School and completed the two-year cosmetology program in early 1990. She worked at Lofton's Beauty Salon for a short period and then decided to become an entrepreneur, starting Lady V's Beauty Salon, which is very well known today.

Retha joined Best Grove Missionary Baptist Church in 1993, where she served as a very faithful and dedicated member. She loved to sing and was an instrumental part of the church's ministry in song and music.

She was a member of the Voices of Faith, Best Grove Senior, Sanctuary Choirs and Bear Creek Mass choir.

Retha directed Best Grove Youth Choir and was president of the Women of Faith ministry. She was also actively involved as a member of Lady Love Chapter 6 OES, PHA and the Amicac of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority.

Retha leaves to cherish her precious memories, her daughter, Teteva Lloyette Jones of the home; her mother, Bessie L. Jones of Goldsboro; her father and stepmother, Hosea and Lillie Daniels of Dudley; four brothers, Hosea (Geraldine) Gibbs, Ronald Daniels, Ricky R. Jones all of Goldsboro and Jeffrey (Kathy) Jones of Chesterfield, Va.; and other relatives and friends.

Cards, lovegrams and condolences may be faxed to Hamilton Funeral Chapel at 735-4725 or e-mailed to hamiltonfc@bellsouth.net.

Flowers may be sent to Hamilton Funeral Chapel of Goldsboro.
