MOUNT OLIVE -- Helen Beasley Thornton Stewart, 82, of Mount Olive Care and Rehabilitation, formerly of Pikeville, died Sept. 14, 2009, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

The funeral service will be Wednesday, Sept. 16, at 6 p.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Michael Lewis officiating, with the visitation immediately following. A graveside service will be Thursday, Sept. 17, at 2 p.m. at Hillcrest Cemetery.

She was born Sept. 14, 1927, to the late Harvey and Mattie Beasley.

Mother started her work as a wife, mother and homemaker, then as a seamstress, yet her favored work was in the food stores, greeting the public with a big smile.

She is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Perry (Ray) of Hampstead; sons, Joe Thornton (Becky) of Saulston and Bud Thornton (Mary) of Pikeville; grandchildren, Bobby Perry, Jennifer Avery, Michael Thornton, John Thornton and Jason Thornton; 10 great-grandchildren; step-children, Sara Pettigrew, Charles, Doug, Terry, Joe, Ricky, David, and Phillip Stewart; brothers, Pan Beasley of Benson and Billy Beasley of Bedford, Ohio; sister, Dean Price of Benson; and children of Bobby Holland.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Johnny Thornton; second husband, Bill Stewart; special friend, Bobby Holland; brothers, Melvin, Marshall, Robert and Tony Beasley; and sisters, Mary Ellen Balance and Margie Bass.

She was a wonderful mother, wife, grandmother, sister and aunt. Mama we love you and will miss you dearly, but now "Go Rest High on that Mountain."

The family would like to thank the staff of Mount Olive Care and Rehabilitation for its love and care for our wonderful mother for the past three and a half years. She loved you all. Also, the staff on the sixth floor at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
