Died Sept. 9, 2009

Betty Jean Bostic Owens, 77, Krystal Circle, passed away peacefully Wednesday at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh, surrounded by her family.

A celebration of life will be held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. from the chapel of Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro.

Born in Concord Community in Rutherford County, Betty was a 1950 graduate of Cool Springs High School in Forest City.

Betty was a homemaker and caretaker of her family. She also worked in medical administration in physicians' offices, and worked several years at Belk's of Goldsboro. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

Betty was an active member of Pinewood Presbyterian in Goldsboro and in previous Presbyterian churches as her husband's corporate employment location changed. She loved golf, travel, camping, the Univer-sity of North Carolina Tar Heels and her dog, Precious.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Grover C. Owens; her son, James Richard and his wife, Rebecca, of Burr Hill, Va.; her daughter, Cynthia Acree and her husband, Michael, of Goldsboro; her grand-children, Lisa Owens of Greensboro, Kevin Acree of Goldsboro and Erin Acree of Charlotte; her brother, Hoke Bostic, and his wife, Pansy, of Rutherfordton; her brother, George Bostic and his wife, Cornelia, of Fairview; her brother-in-law, Harold Owens and his wife, Evelyn, of Danville, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Mary Bostic, and her brother, Charles.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Howell Funeral Home & Crematory and other times at the residence.
