SNOW HILL -- James Frederick "Fred" Roberts, 80, of Snow Hill, died Friday.
A service of remembrance will be held Monday at Hull Road Free Will Baptist Church with the Revs. John Hill and Leon Grubbs officiating. Interment will follow at Hull Road Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery.
Fred was born Aug. 5, 1929, in Johnston County to the late John and Agnes Driver Roberts. He served with the United States Navy during the Korean War. Fred retired from Exxon where he worked in sales and service. He was an active member of Goldsboro First Free Will Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and sang in the choir. He formerly served as Sunday school superintendent and taught Sunday school. Fred enjoyed taking care of his yard and visiting the elderly. Fred was preceded in death by a brother, John Milton Roberts; and a sister, Louise Blackman.
Fred is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lindley Barrow Roberts; sister, Frances Herring of Charlotte; brother, Robert Roberts of Mount Olive; sisters and brothers-in-law, Nell Roberts of Mount Olive, Thelma Speight of Kinston, Carolyn Barrow of LaGrange, Faye Stewart of Roanoke, Va., Agnes and Thurman Brock of New Bern, Carol and Larry Trammell of Chapel Hill, David and Margaret Barrow of Greenville, Drew and Margie Barrow of LaGrange; nieces and nephews, Dr. John Roberts, Lori Temple, Danny Taylor, Barbara Dezern, Renee Roberts, Kathy Elliott, Bill Herring, Teresa Speight, Pam Koutavas, Elizabeth Brock, Danny Barrow, Reggie Barrow, Alton Barrow, Lisa Barrow, Ashley Trammell, Alan Trammell, Jared Barrow, Sheila Parr and Sharon Davis; special caregivers, Nancy Harris, Jean Darden, Carolyn Barrow, the staffs at Beacon Arms and Britthaven of Snow Hill.
