LAGRANGE -- Walter C. "Pee-Wee" Whitfield, 66, died Monday at his home.
A service of remembrance will be held tonight at 7 at Rouse Funeral Home, with the Rev. Tony McLamb officiating. Interment will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery.
Pee-Wee was born Oct. 2, 1942, in Wayne County to the late James Weston Whitfield and Nelton Carter Whitfield.
He was a member of Walnut Creek Free Will Baptist Church.
Pee-Wee enjoyed cooking, preparing desserts for men's fellowship, playing with children and softball.
Pee-Wee is survived by his wife of 26 years, Jennifer Whitfield; three children, Kevin Brian Whitfield of LaGrange, Mark Edward Whitfield of Wilmington and William Dewayne Grant and wife, Crystal, of Grifton; two grandchildren, Richard Tyler Grant and Laney Mooring; two brothers, James Elton Whitfield and wife, Rose, of LaGrange and John Wayne Whitfield and wife, Judy, of LaGrange; sisters and brothers-in-law, Wanda Jones and Carl Derry and Ronald Brooks and Tammy Brooks; nephew, John Dwayne Whitfield and wife, Michelle, of LaGrange; four nieces, Rhonda Johnson, Brittany Brooks, Katie Brooks and Kelsey Brooks; and his beloved dogs, Daisy and Sassy.
The family will receive friends tonight following the service and at other times they will be at the home.
