DOROTHY F. LETCHWORTH

April 10, 1924-Aug. 23, 2009

STANTONSBURG -- Dorothy Folston Letchworth, 85, 890 Pope Farm Road, went to be with her Lord Sunday at Pitt County Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

The funeral service will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Church Street Chapel of Farmville Funeral Home, with the Rev. William Creech and the Rev. Danny Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Stantonsburg Cemetery.

Mrs. Letchworth was born April 10, 1924, in Greene County and was a lifetime member of the Lindell Community.

Mrs. Letchworth loved gardening, spending time with family, (especially with her great-granddaughter to whom she was GG); reading her Bible and memorizing passages of Scripture. Over the years, Mrs. Letchworth wrote many beautiful and inspiring poems. The following lines from one of her poems depicts her unwavering faith:

"So lift your eyes toward Heaven,

Give Him thanks for sending His son,

So when He calls us all to Glory,

He can say well done my children, well done."

She is survived by her brother, Marvin Folston and wife, Edith, of Stantonsburg; granddaughter, Jennifer Cuthrell and husband, Billy, of Wendell; great-granddaughter, Emma Cuthrell; daughter-in-law, Frieda Massey of Ayden; and many loving and caring nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, S.T. and Bertie Folston; husband, Melvin Letchworth; son, Tommy Massey, Steve Letchworth and his wife, Becky; brother William Folston and his wife, Mildred; and sister, Iris Shirley and her husband, George.

The family will receive friends at Farmville Funeral Home tonight from 6:30 to 8:30.
