CHESTER I. THOMPSON

Chester Idell Thompson, 80, of 649 Grantham School Road, died Sunday at Pitt Memorial Hospital from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Chester was born in Wayne County on Jan. 16, 1929, to the late Joseph Preston Thompson and Viola Chestnutt Thompson.
He was a well-known radio personality with his radio program, the Chester Thompson Old Time Jamboree on WGBR. Chester was an honorary member of the Purple Hearts and was also a member of the Aircraft & Owners Pilot Association. He was a longtime farmer in the Grantham Community and had a great love for flying.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with the Rev. Frederick Dixon officiating. Interment will follow at Wayne Memorial Park.
Chester is survived by his wife, Nancy "Pinky" Lee Thompson; his daughter, Judy T. Grady of Grantham; his son, Jerry Chester Thompson and wife, Brenda, of Grantham; his sisters, Colene Thompson of Grantham and Betty Grantham of Mount Olive; his grandchildren, Dewayne Grady, Annette Grady, Timmy Thompson and wife, Tracy and Kevin Thompson and wife, Tina and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Although flowers are welcome, memorials may be made to the Grantham Rescue Squad, 3388 U.S. Hwy. 13 S., Goldsboro, N.C. 27530.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at the home of his daughter, Judy Grady, 646 Grantham School Road, Goldsboro.
