Herman Lanier Hobbs gently answered God's call on Sunday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

He was the son of the late Jesse A. Hobbs Sr. and Mrs. Mable E. Whitted Hobbs of Goldsboro.

Herman joined the First African Baptist Church as a youth and was a faithful member until his health failed.

He was a 1968 graduate of Dillard High School and received a B.S. in business administration and a law degree from North Carolina Central University in Durham.

While at NCCU, he became a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity.

He is survived by his devoted mother, Mrs. Mable E. Whitted Hobbs; three brothers, Dr. Ralph S. Hobbs of Nashville, Tenn., Dr. Jesse A. Hobbs Jr. (Janice) of Hampton, Va., Mr. Earl E. Hobbs of Goldsboro; a sister, Mrs. Alice Hobbs Dawkins (James) of West Chester, Pa., and a sister-in-law, Dr. Alma C. Hobbs of Lorton, Va. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends.

A viewing will be held at Hamilton Funeral Home from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday and also from 10:45 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Friday at the First African Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held at noon Friday at 805 Harris St., Goldsboro, with the Rev. Dr. Louis S. Leigh Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Goldsboro.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the First African Baptist Church.
