Dr. Kathryn Holloway Geisen lost her battle with cancer Saturday, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.
A private service will be held for the family.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 18 at Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home in Elizabethtown.
Dr. Geisen earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Atlantic Christian College, M.E.D. from Campbell University and doctorate from Nova Southeastern University. After many years in teaching and administration in the state community college system, she had currently been serving as vice president of Bladen Community College.
Dr. Geisen was also president of the Elizabethtown Rotary Club, an active member of the Red Hat Society, an avid volunteer for Walk for the Cure and a member of several other civic organizations. A renowned southern cook, Dr. Geisen was a sought-after caterer throughout her adult life and cook book author.
Born in Lexington, Ky., she moved to North Carolina with her family at the age of 9 and always remained in North Carolina.
She is survived by her parents, Betty and Roy Holloway of Goldsboro; husband, Joseph Geisen of the home; daughters, Lisa LaGrone and husband, Shane LaGrone of Mount Washington, Ky., and Jaime King and husband, Edward King of Dover; sister, Janet Holloway Jackson and family of Clifton, Texas; and three grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth Will and Haley LaGrone.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
