MALCOLM D. CALLAHAN SR.

Malcolm Dewey Callahan Sr., 85, Laurinburg passed away on Thursday.

Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel officiated by the Rev. Harry Clark. Burial will follow at Hillside Memorial Park.

Mr. Callahan was born Jan. 17, 1923 in Scotland County, son of the late Samuel and Nezzie Carpenter Callahan and the husband of the late Grace Callahan. He worked in textiles formerly with Waverly Mills retiring after many years of dedicated service. He was a talented wood worker, craftsman and painter. Mr. Callahan was an independent and determined man that enjoyed the simple things in life especially working in his garden.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Callahan was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Wendy Callahan Bennett; brothers, Hampton Tilton Callahan and Samuel Dewey Callahan, Jr. and a sister, Margaret Wiggins.

He is survived by his children, sons, Malcolm "Mack" D. Callahan Jr. and wife Brenda of Laurinburg, Dennis C. Callahan and wife Katie of Laurinburg, Michael "Shawn" Callahan of Goldsboro; his daughters, Myrtle Elizabeth Pierson of Roxboro and Patricia C. Lewis and husband Tony of Goldsboro; a sister, Nora "Frances" Nelson of Laurinburg; eight grandchildren, Cassie C. Byrd, Elizabeth C. Bell, Susan M. Tucker, Ashley E. Pierson, Tina D. Stocks, Crystal Covington, Michael A. Lewis and Patrick A. Lewis; 14 grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and a special companion, Gloria Tessin of Laurinburg.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday at Richard Boles Funeral Service.

The family request that memorials be made to Hospice of Scotland County, P.O. Box 1033, Laurinburg, N.C., 28353.
