EFFIE "PEGGY" B. GARDNER

WILSON -- Effie "Peggy" Brown Gardner, 85, died Sunday, following an automobile accident in Saratoga at Pitt County Memorial Hospital. A double funeral service for Mrs. Gardner and her husband will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Joyner's Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Evergreen Memorial Park. The Rev. Gaylord Lehman will officiate.

Peggy was the daughter of the late Ernest and Ethel Brown. She was born in Lowell, Vt. During World War II she worked in the war factories in Boston, Mass., where she met and married her husband, Huland Barnes Gardner of 64 years. She retired from Wilson Memorial Hospital where she was nurse for many years. After retiring, she enjoyed volunteering for several groups including the Red Cross, Meals on Wheels and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.

She is survived by two daughters, Suzette G. Evans and special friend, Wayne Renfrow, of Elm City and Judy G. Trott and husband, Jerry, of Goldsboro; two sons, Ray Gardner and wife, Patsy, of Rocky Mount and James "Jimmy" Gardner and wife, Toni Ann, of Goldsboro; two sisters, Rita Smith of Boston Mass., and Natalie Towle of Danville, Vt.; eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Peggy as preceded in death by two sisters, Vera Eastaugh and Rena Brown; and a brother, John Brown.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service and at other times the family will be at 8638 Forest Cove Road, Elm City.
