JOSEPH LEWIS SR.

Joseph "Big Lew" Lewis Sr., 1212 Mimosa St., died Saturday. He was born to the late Georgianna and Tank Lewis.

Mr. Lewis was a member of the Dillard High School class of 1957. He retired from the U.S. Air Force as Technical Sergeant and earned a Bronze Star Medal for his service in Vietnam. Mr. Lewis was a devoted and faithful member of St. Stephens Missionary Baptist Church where he served as deacon.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 8, 2007, 1:30 p.m. at Bear Creek Association Headquarters, 1800 S. Slocumb St., Goldsboro, with the Rev. Ezekiel K. Sutton officiating.

He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Dorothy B. Lewis; four daughters, Josa Raynor-Vaughn and Lisa Lewis, both of Goldsboro, Melba McCloud of Raleigh and Angela Lewis of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; two sons, Joseph Lewis Jr. of Charlotte and Mark Lewis of Atlanta, Ga.; eight grandchildren; one sister, Mary Rhodes Collins of Goldsboro; two brothers, J.B. Rhodes Sr. and Emmuel Lewis Sr., both of Goldsboro; several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

A viewing will be held Saturday, July 7, 2007, from 2 to 7 p.m. at Rhodes Funeral Home in Goldsboro. The family will greet friends at 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
