MOUNT OLIVE -- John M. Branch Sr., 90, 719 Red Hill Road, died Sunday at Guardian Care Nursing Center.
Mr. Branch was born in Duplin County to the late James and Rosa Shiver Branch. He served in the U.S. Navy and was retired from the American Tobacco Co. in Richmond, Va.
Funeral services will be Friday at 1 p.m. from the St. Stevens United Holy Church with Minister Patricia Branch-Nettles and the Rev. Luther Talley officiating. Burial will follow in the Carver Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Swannie B. Branch of the home; sons, John Moses Branch Jr. of Pittsburg, Pa., David William Branch of Midlothian, Va., Daniel W. Branch and Gregory Conner, both of Richmond, Va.; daughter, Minister Patricia Branch-Nettles of Shreveport, La.; brother, Lewis Best of Kenansville; sister, Sarah Dobson of Magnolia; 15 grandchildren, 32 grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Viewing will be tonight from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Garris Funeral Home Chapel. Wake will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the church.
