DAVID GRIMES

WILSON - David Grimes, 84, 4031 Old Stantonsburg Road, died Monday at his home.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro. Pastors Patsy Jones and Sherwood Page will officiate. A graveside service will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Chase Family Cemetery in Pikeville.
Mr. Grimes was born in Lenoir County to the late Joe and Della Hardison Grimes. He was a member of the American Legion and was a veteran of the U. S. Army where he served during WWII. He was retired from the U. S. Postal Service in Wilson.
He is survived by his wife, Lela Chase Grimes; three sons, Gerald Grimes and his wife, Anita, of Fremont, Ricky Grimes and his wife, Pat, of Wilson and Dennis Grimes and his wife, Judy, of Stantonsburg; two daughters, Suzette Tilghman Blizzard and her husband, Jimmy, of Maury and Sheila Lamm and her husband, Jimmy, of Wilson; a son-in-law, Jackie Overby of Henderson; one brother, Richard Grimes and his wife, Evangelia, of Pikeville; two sisters, Celeste Combs of Goldsboro and Becky Grimes of Goldsboro; 19 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Grimes was preceded in death by a daughter, JoAnn Overby.
The family will receive friends following the service on Wednesday at Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro and other times at the residence.
