Lena Mae Branche, 90, of 205 Elmore St., Mount Olive, entered into eternal rest on Thursday at Britthaven Nursing Home in Goldsboro.

A homegoing celebration will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Payne Temple A.M.E.Z. Church in Mount Olive. The Rev. Sylvester Smith Sr. will officiate. Entombment will be held in the Congregational Church Cemetery in Dudley.

Ms. Branche was born in Duplin County to the late Haywood and Minnie Branche. She was a faithful member of Payne Temple A.M.E.Z. Church until her health declined.

Ms. Branche taught school in Duplin and Wayne counties for nearly 40 years. She was a person who loved learning. She attended several institutions of higher learning such as Columbia University, Howard University, Shaw University and Syracuse University. Ms. Branche was very instrumental in helping the elderly, and in securing Social Security benefits for several people in surrounding counties when the plan was initially implemented.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory two daughters, Barbara W. Branche of the home, and Helen M. Davis and husband, Charles, of Oxford; two nieces, Florene D. Branche of Mount Olive and Margaret Fisher and husband, Kenneth, of Landover, Md.; one nephew, Joe L. Miller and wife, Veronica, of Warsaw; and a loving and devoted family friend and supporter, Mrs. Charlene Robinson of Mount Olive. In addition to her parents, Ms. Branche was preceded in death by her only sister, Cora B. Miller. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to services at Payne Temple A.M.E.Z. Church 915 Center St., Mount Olive.
