EDITH A. BATTEN

CHERAW, S.C. - Edith A. Batten, 83, died Saturday at the residence of her daughter in Cheraw. Born in Somers, Mo., she was the daughter of the late Henry and Dominica Luriatti Carbonari and wife of the late Charles Batten. A member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Cheraw, she retired from the U.S. Department of State with the Agency for International Development after 37 years of service.

Private graveside services will be at the Pikeville Cemetery with pastor David Bradshaw officiating.

Mrs. Batten is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Charles Rose of Cheraw; one brother, Rino Carbonari of Spokane, Wash.; two grandchildren, Sgt. David Rose, USMC, of Quantico, Va. and Mary Ann Rose of Charleston, S.C.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to the Hospice of Chesterfield County, P.O. Box 293, Chesterfield, S.C. 29709.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home and Crematory.
