RAY WHITLEY

April 7, 1947-Nov. 17, 2006

Ray Whitley, 59, of 2949 Big Daddy's Road, died Friday at his home.

A native of Wayne County, he was born to the late Robert and Tiny Perry Whitley. Ray was employed with Georgia Pacific and was the owner of Carolina Carpet Service. He was a member of the American Legion Post in Snow Hill. Ray attended Faro PFWB Church and was a member of Faro Volunteer Fire Department which will post honor guards. He served his country in the United States Army in Viet Nam receiving the Purple Heart and the Army Accommodation Medal.

Funeral services will be 7:30 p.m. Monday at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joe Strouse and Rev. Willard Hardison officiating. Interment will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in Eureka Cemetery.

Surviving are wife, Diane McKeel Whitley; daughters, Javita Henderson and husband, Ron, of Raleigh and Shannon Evans and husband, Jay, of Faro; sisters, Louise Conway and husband, Earl, of Goldsboro, and Peggy Crowe of Raleigh; brothers, Robert Whitley Jr. and wife, Ella, of Raleigh, Donald Whitley and wife, Rhonda, of Dudley, William Whitley and wife, Barbara, of Buckhead, Ga., Dennis Whitley and wife, Shirley, of Kinston, and Phillip Whitley of Stantonsburg; grandchildren, Damian, Whitley, and Darius Henderson and Shiane and Carli Rae Evans; a very special sister-in-law, Vicky Johnson; and many special friends.

In addition to his parents Ray was preceded in death by a sister, Myrtle McCullan.

Diane, Javita, and Shannon would like to thank their many friends and family for their support and caregiving during Ray's illness.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service and at other times will be at the residence.
