Nita Hazel Cox, 89, died Tuesday at Britthaven Nursing Home in Smithfield.

Mrs. Cox was born in Wayne County to the late Joseph A. and Pearcy Andrews Cox. She was married to the late Victor Elam Cox. Mrs. Cox retired as the office manager for Dr. Benton with 35 years of service. She was a member of Falling Creek United Methodist Church, where she served as choir director for many years and as superintendent of the church.

Funeral services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Falling Creek United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jean Hood officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Cox is survived by her daughter, Mary Jo Waddell and husband, Jerry, of Grantham; her son, Victor Ed Cox and wife, Lynne, of Grantham; her grandchildren, Theresa Coley, Kimberly Powell, Amanda Carter and Jamie Norris; and her great-grandchildren, Justin and Jacob Coley, Aeris Carter, Kaya and Dara Powell.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Chester Cox; her sisters, Olivia Duff and Audrey Parker; and a great-grandchild, Hanna Coley.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Falling Creek United Methodist Church Building Fund, 299 Falling Creek Church Road, Goldsboro, 27530.

The family will receive friends tonight at Seymour Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. and other times at the home of Mary Jo and Jerry Waddell, 4061 US Hwy 13 South, Goldsboro.
