Leslie Gordon Nelson, 69, 310 Wesley Drive, died Monday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Mr. Nelson was born in Wayne County to the late Leslie Nelson and Lillian Johnson Nelson. A veteran of the U. S. Air Force, he was a retired salesman with Moffatt Oil Company. Mr. Nelson was an avid fisherman and enjoyed his yardwork.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Alan Stocks officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.

Mr. Nelson is survived by his wife, Virginia Fields "Jenny" Nelson; his sisters, Louise Casey of Emerald Isle, Marie Peterson of Goldsboro, and Helen Sorrow and husband, John, of Covington, Ga.; his brothers, Ellis Nelson of Lexington, S. C., Robert "Bob" Nelson and wife, Betty, of Sneads Ferry, James "Jimmy" Nelson of Goldsboro and William Nelson and wife, Wanda, of Roanoke, Va.; his nieces, Susan Nelson of Winterville, Karen, Joyce, and husband, Tim, all of Greensboro, Linda Sue Palhamus and husband, Bill, of Roanoke, Va., Lynn Swaney and husband, Donald, of Covington, Va., Emily Adams and husband, John, of Langley, Va., Amy Dill of Goldsboro, Jamie Brukette and husband, Kenny, of Va.; his nephews, Walter "Rocky" Smith and wife, Sandra, of Chesapeake, Va., Mark Sorrow of Raleigh, Steven Nelson of Raleigh, Kevin Nelson and wife, Sandra, of Durham, Greg Nelson of Lexington, S.C., and Terry Smith and wife, Trish, of Va., and several great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Nelson; a sister, Laura Smith; and a nephew, Dr. Dennis Casey.

The family would like to give special thanks to a very special sitter, Carolyn Howell, the staff of Kitty Askins Hospice Center, a very special goddaughter, Vonne Smith and Bobby and also Jenny Tillman and daughters, Cyrstal Gray and Jennifer Tillman.

Although flowers are welcome, memorials may be made to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 2402 Wayne Memorial Drive, Goldsboro, 27534.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Seymour Funeral Home.
