HOZIE SMITH

Died Nov. 9, 2006

WARSAW - Hozie Smith, 86, 119 S. Stella St., died Thursday at Lenoir Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Sampson County to the late Rogers and Mary Smith. Mr. Smith was a construction worker with Rogers Construction, Co., in Smithfield and a veteran with the U.S. Army. He received his education in the Sampson County Public school system.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Wilson Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Turkey with the Rev. Isaac Johnson, officiating. Interment will follow in the Wilson Chapel Church Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Thelma Best Smith, of the home; nine sons, Herman Smith, La., Hozie Smith, Jr. of Philadelphia, Pa., David and Herbert Smith, both of Fayetteville, Thomas Earl Smith, Wash., Dexter Smith of Raleigh, Kevin Smith of Warsaw, and William Battle of Mt. Olive; three daughters, Jacqueline Morrisey, Judy Smith, and Denise Hicks, all of Warsaw; three brothers, David Faison of Warsaw, Johnnie Lee and Roosevelt Faison of Turkey; five sisters, Alice Marie Wells of Clinton, Nora Butler and Cobertha Miller of Jacksonville, Jessie M. Stevens and Lennie Smith of Turkey; 32 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

Wake will be Friday at Rhodes Funeral Chapel in Warsaw from 6 to 8 p.m.

The family will assemble at the residence at 1:15 p.m. in preparation for the funeral.
