THOMAS E. HILL
Died Nov. 8, 2006
Thomas Elmer Hill, 81, 411 South Audubon Avenue, died Wednesday at Britthaven Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.
A native of Kinston, he was the son of the late Herbert Elmer Hill and Katie Sykes Hill. He attended Goldsboro City Schools and served in the United States Navy during World War II, primarily aboard the Aircraft Carrier "USS Saratoga." After leaving the Navy, he became a highly qualified auto mechanic and auto ignition specialist. During the Vietnam War he was a technical representative for several contract corporations, spending many years in Vietnam. In later years, he was one of the original owners and operators of H.E. Hill's Garage on Vine Street. He was a member of the First Christian Church, a life member of the American Legion, member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars, a private pilot and enjoyed collecting and racing miniature cars.
Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. today at Wayne Memorial Park with the Rev. Fred Clarke officiating. Family will greet friends today from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at the residence of Bob and Lynda Hill, 705 South Claiborne St.
He was preceded in death by his wives, Oteena Van Roekel, Mary Elizabeth Jones, Ann Parker and a daughter, Kay Mason. He was survived by four sons, Thomas E. Hill, Jr. and wife, Rachel, of Front Royal,Va., William Robert Hill and wife, Sharon, of Cooksville, Md., Ronald B. Hill and wife, Angela, of Brunswick, Md., and Donald C. Hill and wife, Nyana, of Walland, Tenn.; step-children, Donald Glenn Best and Debbie Austin; brothers, Robert E. "Bob" Hill and wife, Lynda, and Herbert E. Hill, Jr. both of Goldsboro; sister, Peggy H. Mitchell of New Bern; special friends, Myrna Kimmel, Jack and Janice Tolar and Helena Parker, all of Goldsboro; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to First Christian Church, 1609 E. Ash St. or the charity of one's choice.
