DUDLEY -- Lila Ellis, 625 Durham Lake Road, peacefully departed this life Thursday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

A Homegoing celebration was held Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Mark Church of Christ, 700 W. Ash St. Burial followed in Wayne Memorial Park.

The youngest of six children, Lila was born to the late Ed Taylor and Margaret Hines Taylor of Wayne County.

Affectionately known to all as "Ma Pie," Lila was born and raised in Wayne County and attended Wayne County Schools. She was a faithful member of the Help Me Club of Dudley and St. Mark Church of Christ where she was a member of the senior choir.

A devoted homemaker, Lila was the wife of the late Robert Ellis. To this union, six children were born with one son, Reginald Ellis, preceding her in death.

Left to cherish her memory are three daughters, Margaret Williams and husband, Lendell, Evangeline Raiford and husband, Charles, and Carolyn Raynor and husband, Douglas, of Goldsboro; two sons, James Robert Ellis and wife, Catherine, and Jerome Ellis of Goldsboro; a daughter-in-law, Avis Ellis of Garner; one brother, Johnny Taylor of Goldsboro; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A viewing was held Sunday beginning at 1 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6 to 7 p.m. at Hamilton Funeral Chapel. At other times, the family received friends at her residence, 625 Durham Lake Road, Dudley.
