PINE BLUFF, Ark. -- Robert "Bob" Thomas, 80, died Thursday.

The funeral will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Fuller Hale-South Funeral Services with John Hagan and Bob Harper officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.

He was born June 6, 1926, in Goldsboro, son of the late John Hayward Thomas and Pauline Uzzell Thomas.

He graduated from Eastern Wayne High School in 1944 and served in the Navy in World War II.

He played baseball for the Navy and then for the Georgetown A's in a semi-pro minor league.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Claire Brown Thomas, and a brother, Linwood Earl Thomas.

He is survived by his wife, Martha Sue Grumbles Thomas of Pine Bluff; a daughter, Lisa Wright of White Hall; three stepsons, Don Brown of Sullivan, Mo., Roger Shank of Altus, Okla., and Gregory Shank of Pine Bluff; a sister, Beulah Mae Sutton of LaGrange; and four brothers, Roland Thomas of Pine Bluff, John Haywood Thomas Jr. of Goldsboro, Joseph Donald of Wallace and Billy Ray Thomas of Washington.

Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Watson Chapel Baptist Church.
