SEVEN SPRINGS -- Gerard Hardy, 93, of Moss Hill, died Wednesday at his home.

The funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Holy Innocents Episcopal Church with Father Michael Singer officiating. Burial will be at Pinelawn Memorial Park.

Mr. Hardy was born in Lenoir County to the late Leonard Parks Hardy and Mamie Barwick Hardy.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Geneva Creech Hardy; brother, George Hardy; and sisters, Eva Barwick and Janie Sutton.

Mr. Hardy was a life-long member of Holy Innocents Episcopal Church and served in a number of offices including assistant superintendent, junior warden, lay reader and Sunday school teacher.

He was an active 4-H member and formerly served as chairman of the Southeastern North Carolina District.

He studied agriculture economics at North Carolina State University where he was a member of the wrestling team and the ROTC. Following his retirement from farming, he and his wife attended continuing education classes at Lenoir Community College where he learned basket weaving. For many years, he and his wife taught basket weaving and participated in craft shows.

Mr. Hardy is survived by two daughters, Iris Rouse and husband, Larry, of Seven Springs and Nancy Thigpen and husband, Ron, of Raleigh; three grandchildren, Scott Rouse and wife, Laura, of Goldsboro, Ryan Thigpen of Raleigh and Haley Thigpen of Raleigh; three great-grandchildren, Ben Rouse, Hallie Rouse and Annsleigh Rouse; brother, Hugh Dan Hardy; and two sisters, Katie Williams and Irene Croom.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8. at Rouse Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Holy Innocents Episcopal Church, 6861 NC 55 west, Seven Springs, 28578.

Arrangements are being handled by Rouse Funeral Home of LaGrange.
