Died Sept. 16, 2006

James Harris, 82, went to be with his Lord Saturday, Sept. 16, 2006 at Lenoir Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be held Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park with military honors, with Gavin C. Martin officiating.

Mr. Harris was born in Wayne County Dec. 31, 1923, to the late James William Harris and Lillie Kirby Harris. He had retired from Griffin Oil Co. with 38 years of service.

Mr. Harris a member of Madison Avenue Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years. He served his country in the Army during World War II and was stationed in Germany, France and the English Channel.

He is survived by his wife, Rachel Crocker Harris; his son, Keith Harris and wife, Debbie, of Goldsboro; his grandchildren, Shawn Keith Harris and wife, Michelle, of Pikeville and Brandon Christopher Harris and fiancée, Wendy Gupton, of Smithfield; and his great-grandchildren, Cierra "CiCi" Harris and Shawn James "SJ" Harris.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Alberta Sellars, Correna Holland and Lela Sasser; and his brother, Ed Harris.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Madison Avenue Baptist Church, 300 S. Madison Ave., Goldsboro, 27534.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at the home of his son, Keith Harris, 107 Stoney Run Drive, Goldsboro.
