Maeretha Dawson Poole died Sept. 4.

A memorial service will be held Friday at 3 p.m. at Lightner Memorial Funeral Home with the Rev. Dwight B. Cannon officiating.

She was born Aug. 26, 1936, to Lena Mial-Heath in Snow Hill.

She was married to the late Earl E. Poole for more than 35 years.

She was a beloved daughter, wife, mother, sister and friend. She had a zest for life and a warm heart. Among her many hobbies were an avid love of cooking, fishing and playing bingo. She spent many moments enjoying these hobbies with her family and friends.

As a member of St. James A.M.E. Zion Church, she was always willing to provide assistance in the community. She opened her home and heart to her grandnieces and grandnephew and cared for them as if they were her own children.

She is survived by two daughters, Regina Poole-Joyner of Richmond, Va., and Pamela E. Poole of Bowie, Md.; a son, Broderick E. Poole of Goldsboro; her mother, Lena Mial-Heath; four sisters, Doris Jean Jackson, Gale Mial and Elaine Mial-Harris of White Plains, N.Y., and Linda Hicks of Boston, Mass.; a brother, Rufus Mial of White Plains; three brothers-in-law, Daniel Lee Poole of Greenville, S.C., Russell Hicks of Boston and Lennie Harris of Henderson; and a host of other relatives and friends.

The viewing will be Thursday from 2 to 8 p.m. at Lightner Memorial Funeral Home.
