FLORIDA -- Alcie John Pate "A.J." Jr. passed away at the age of 82 on Aug. 22, 2006, after complications from a recent fall in his Palm City home.
A.J. served in the Navy during World War II aboard the aircraft carrier USS Croatan. Upon his discharge from the Navy, he moved with his wife, Letha, to Ojus, Fla., and became an electrician and a member of the IBEW local 728.
In 1962, he moved his family to Hollywood, Fla. He eventually worked as an electrical inspector for Broward County for 17 years before retiring in 1994.
A.J. was a charter member of Sheridan Hills Baptist Church in Hollywood. Shortly after retiring, he moved to Palm City and became a member of First Baptist Church in Stuart, Fla.
He is survived by his wife, Letha Hinnant Pate; two sons, Kenneth, and wife, Loretta, and Glenn, and wife, Pat; grandchildren, Christopher and wife, Stacey, Jennifer, Shelley and husband, Adam, Sheri, Kimberly and husband, Jason, Nathan and wife, Teresa, Ben and wife, Jessica, Andy, Rachel, Christine and Steven; and a great-granddaughter, Isabella.
A.J. had a generous spirit and a loving heart; he will be greatly missed by all.
A memorial service was held Saturday at Christ Fellowship Church, south campus, 5312 Northlake Blvd., P.B.G. 33418.
A viewing was held from 3 to 4 p.m. and the funeral was from 4 to 5 p.m.
