MOUNT OLIVE -- Hilda Puckett Lambert, 78, of 104 Whitley St., died Tuesday at her home.

A service of remembrance will be held tonight at 7 at Calypso Presbyterian Church of Calypso with the Rev. Chris Currie and the Rev. Paul Rose officiating.

She was a member of Calypso Presbyterian Church and the North Carolina Retired Teachers Association. In past years, she had been active in the North Carolina Association of Educators.

A graduate of Faison High School, she earned her baccaulareate degree from Atlantic Christian College, where she was an honor graduate, and earned her master's degree with honors from East Carolina University.

Her school teaching career began in 1965 and ended upon her retirement in December 1991. During her teaching tenure, she taught both language arts and social studies in the Wayne and Duplin County School Systems.

She had been a resident of Calypso for most of her life.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin James (M.J.) Lambert Jr.; her parents, Raymond and Luna Pearsall Puckett; and three brothers, Robert Puckett, Royall Puckett and Billy Puckett.

She is survived by a son, Dr. James Royall Lambert Sr., and wife, Nealy Pope Lambert, of Mount Olive; a daughter, Jacqueline Lambert Brewer, and husband, Chris Brewer, of Apex; a sister, Gaynelle Puckett Summerlin of Richlands; two brothers, Ralph Keith Puckett of Mount Olive and John Raymond Puckett of Dunwoody, Ga.; two grandchildren, Dr. Jeni Lambert Clingan of Winston-Salem and James Royall "Jim" Lambert Jr. of Wilmington; special caregivers, Rubylene and Rodney Lambert Sr. of Calypso, who were also her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Edith Sasser of Mount Olive and Wilma Sasser of Grantham; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members to include Gray Sloan of Mount Olive and Kerry Brewer of Chapel Hill.

Friends and relatives will be received at the residence at 104 Whitley St., Mount Olive.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Barium Springs Home for Children, P.O. Box One, Barium Springs, N.C., 28010.

Tyndall Funeral Home is serving the family.
