GEORGE T. PARKER

George Thomas Parker, 88, of 1808 U.S. Highway 13 South, died Friday evening at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Parker was born in Wayne County to the late William Leslie Parker and Effie Sutton Parker. He was a retired farmer in the Grantham community and served his country in the United States Army during World War II. An avid storyteller and outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting for fox, raccoon and birds. Mr. Parker was a member of Falling Creek Baptist Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Falling Creek Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ron Varner officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Parker was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Stewart Parker, and brother, Zeke Parker. He is survived by his son, Stewart Leslie Parker of Goldsboro; his daughters, Georgia Lee Stephens and her husband, David Kriedler, of Goldsboro, and Smithy Parker Dodd and her husband, Ken, of Raleigh; his grandchildren, Timothy Reid Parker and his wife, Jackie, of Goldsboro, Daniel Dodd and Laura Dodd, both of Raleigh; three great-grandchildren, Emily, Maggie and Abbey Parker; his brother, Worth Parker of Goldsboro; and his sister, Elva Jordan of Jordan's Chapel.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Zeke Parker.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at his home.
