WARSAW -- Robert Edward Monk, 58, of 904 S. Pine St., died Monday at Duplin General Hospital in Kenansville.

The funeral will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Rhodes Funeral Home in Warsaw. The Rev. Ray Gilbert will officiate. Burial will be in Monk Family Cemetery in Kenansville.

Mr. Monk was a Duplin County native and a veteran of the Vietnam War. He graduated from Douglass High School in 1966 and received a master's degree in sociology from North Carolina Central University.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie and Lucille Southerland Monk, and is survived by one daughter, Barbara Pickett of Durham; one brother, Ronald Monk of Bolivia; three sisters, Margaret Nixon of Upper Marlboro, Md., Miriam Swan of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, and Helen Newman of Warsaw.

The viewing hours will be from 4 until 7 p.m. on Saturday at Rhodes Funeral Home.

The funeral procession will line up at the residence at 1:30 on Sunday afternoon.
