Patty Olivia Jones Cope, 90, died Monday at her residence at the Deerfield Retirement Community in Asheville.

Born September 6, 1915 in Mount Olive, N.C., Patty was the 11th of 12 children born to Daniel and Martha Alma Jones.

She attended Mount Olive High School where she excelled in basketball and later played for Wayne County All-Stars. This was followed by attending Woman's College of the University of North Carolina. During World War II, Mrs. Cope worked for T.A. Loving Co. at the Marine Corps Air Station at Cherry Point, N.C., where she met her husband. After the war, her life was devoted to raising her children, living in several places in the west, and volunteering for the American Red Cross, eventually retiring in Asheville

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Dr. Oliver B. Cope; her daughter, Carole Breeding and husband, Dennis, of Denver, Colo.; her son, Brian Cope and wife, Marylys, of Littleton, Colo.: six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home, in her native Mount Olive, with Dr. Lily Chou officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Friday.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at Biltmore United Methodist Church in Asheville where Mrs. Cope was a member.
