WILLIE J. SUMMERLIN SR.

Willie Jones Summerlin Sr., 78, of 115 Bear Creek Road, died unexpectedly on Sunday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Summerlin was born in Duplin County to the late Herbert Joyner Summerlin and Addie Jones Summerlin. He was the owner of New Hope Grocery and had worked as a bail bondsman in Wayne County for many years. Mr. Summerlin was a member of Rooty Branch Free Will Baptist Church. An avid golfer, he was a member of the Goldsboro Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. #139.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park with Rick Pridgen officiating.

Mr. Summerlin is survived by his wife, Josephine Jones Summerlin; his son, Willie Summerlin Jr. of Pikeville; his daughter, Brenda Summerlin Taylor of Goldsboro; his grandchildren, Trey Summerlin, Brittney Summerlin Taylor and Nicholas Summerlin; and two sisters, Mary Wilkins and husband, Bill, of Mount Airy and Katherine Tadlock of Mount Olive.

He was preceded in death by his stepmother, Lannie Summerlin; his brother, Herbert Lee Summerlin; and his sisters, Nellie Williams and Addie Sparks.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 5216 Glen Allen, Va., 23058; or to the American Cancer Society, 930-B Wellness Drive, Greenville, N.C., 27834.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 until 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, and other times the residence.
