STANLEY E. YELVERTON

EUREKA -- Stanley Eugene Yelverton, 82, of 111 N. Church St., died Friday morning at Wilson Medical Center after a long struggle with Alzheimer's.

Mr. Yelverton was born in Wayne County on Feb. 8, 1924 to the late Thaddeus Yelverton and Mable Minshew Yelverton. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II and was the recipient of two Bronze Stars. Mr. Yelverton was a prisoner of war in Germany.

Mr. Yelverton was a farmer in the Eureka Community and was a member of the North Carolina Cattleman Association. He was the recipient of several awards for his cattle and for his farming experience. Mr. Yelverton was an avid Wolfpack fan. He was a member of Eureka United Methodist Church, where he was very active in the Methodist Men, sang in the choir and served on numerous committees for the church. Mr.. Yelverton was a charter member and past president of the Eureka Ruritan Club and also served as a volunteer fireman for the Eureka Fire Department. He had a great love for art and had painted numerous persons and landscapes of the community.

The funeral will be today at 3 p.m. at Eureka United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ed Drew officiating. Burial with military honors will be at Eureka Cemetery.

Mr. Yelverton is survived by his wife, Mary Jackson Eason Yelverton; his sons, Stan Yelverton of Raleigh; Al Yelverton and wife, Stephanie, of Eureka; and Phil Yelverton and wife, Brenda, of Eureka; his sisters, Hilda McMahon of Berthoud, Colo., and Marie Good of Wilson; his brother, Raymond Yelverton and wife, Sally, of Eureka; his sister-in-law, Margaret Wise Yelverton of Eureka; and his grandchildren, Jackson Yelverton, Colton Yelverton, Lizzie Yelverton and Mary Yelverton.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Selby Yelverton.

Memorials may be made to Eureka United Methodist Church, 128 N. Church Street, Eureka, N.C., 27830.

The family received friends Saturday evening from 7 until 9 at Seymour Funeral Home and will receive friends at other times at his home.
