ODELL TYNDALL

Clarence Odell Tyndall, formerly of 317 Nelson Drive, Goldsboro, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, July 31, 2006.

Odell was born On September 6, 1929, in Sampson County. He graduated from Stedman High School, and attended Coyne Electronics School in Chicago, Ill., on a Vocational Rehabilitation Scholarship due to an impaired right arm. He attended Pineland Edwards Military Institute in Salemburg and graduated

from Wake Forest University in 1958 with a major in Social Studies and a minor in religion and Education. Upon graduation from Wake Forest, he attended Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, and was an ordained Baptist Minister.

In 1960 Odell was first employed in Vocational Rehabilitation in the Raleigh District Office. Prior to moving to Goldsboro in 1966, he worked in the Durham and Greensboro District offices and was Facility Supervisor at Broughton Hospital in Morganton, NC. Odell was very instrumental in assisting impaired individuals find employment and gain access to public places. He was honored to have named for him the annual C. Odell Tyndall Legislative Breakfast, at which was presented yearly an award known as the "Tyndall Legislative Award" given to a member of the N.C. General Assembly in recognition of their contributions toward rehabilitation.

Odell was a very active member of First Baptist Church of Goldsboro. He was a past Chairman of the Board of Deacons, a Sunday School teacher, served on several committees, and was a member of the Church choir. He was always glad to be asked to drive the church vans for youth trips, senior trips, or any other reason necessary. He was a past Assistant Scout Master of Boy Scouts of America Troop 6, which met at First Baptist. He was also active in the Southern Baptist Convention, and served as a delegate to the Convention.

Odell was involved in several community organizations, including the Goldsboro Optimist Club, of which he was past President. He was a member and past Master of Goldsboro Masonic Lodge #634. He was active in the "Father's Club" at the Wayne County Boy's Club on Royal Avenue when it was first established, and while his sons were active members.

He was also very active in the National Rehabilitation Association, the North Carolina Rehabilitation Association, the State Employees Association of North Carolina, and the Wayne County Democratic Party.

Odell was predeceased by his parents, Clarence Marvin Tyndall and Muriel Taylor Tyndall, his son, Capt. Clarence "Carl" Carter Tyndall (USAF retired), his brother, Delbert Tyndall, and his nephew, Richard "Ricky" Tyndall.

He is survived by his Wife, Frances Carter Tyndall; two daughters, Karen Tyndall Parsons of Peachtree City, Ga., and Rebecca Ann Tyndall of Goldsboro; one son, Ken Tyndall of Wake Forest, N.C.; seven grandchildren: Patricia Leigh Tyndall, Valerie Elaine Tyndall and Laura Katherine Tyndall, all of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; Julianne Janelle Parsons, Jeannene Rachel Parsons of Peachtree City, Ga.; Brittany Laine Tyndall, and James Miller Tyndall of Wake Forest, N.C.; one sister, Rosie Adelaide Rozier, of Vander, N.C.; two daughters-in-law, Kimberly Miller Tyndall and Elizabeth Jones Tyndall; one son-in-law, Rob Parsons; three nieces, Janet Rozier Drewes, Sherry Tyndall and Amy Tyndall Canham; and three nephews, Wayne Tyndall, Jerry Rozier, and Mike Rozier.

The family will welcome visitors on Wednesday August 2, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., at First

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, August 3, at 11 a.m., at First Baptist Church in Goldsboro. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.

Flowers are welcome, or donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Goldsboro, Building Fund, Transportation Fund or General Fund.
