Laurah Newsome Howell, 91, died Tuesday evening at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be held Friday at 7 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel. The Reverends Mike Grady, Waldo Smith and Otto Griffin will officiate. Interment will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park.

Mrs. Howell was born in Wayne County to the late John and Polly Daniels Newsome. She was a lifelong member of Woods Grove Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church.

She is survived by a daughter, Polly Culbreth and husband, Art, of Goldsboro; two grandchildren, Anthony Culbreth of Mount Olive and Pam Culbreth of Goldsboro; three great-grandchildren, Jennifer and Jacob Culbreth of Mount Olive and Alyssa Culbreth of Goldsboro; a son-in-law, Ed Smith of Goldsboro; and a brother, John D. Newsome of Goldsboro.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Joe Howell; her daughter, JoAnn Smith; her grandson, Jeffrey Allen Culbreth; and a great-granddaughter. She was also preceded in death by seven sisters, Jose Grady, Maddie Wiggins, Lucy Anderson, Lala Fields, Alice Cunningham, Sallie Wiggins and Bell Sutton; and one brother, Don Newsome.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service on Friday evening, and other times at the home of Polly and Art Culbreth, 104 Quail Run, Goldsboro.

Although flowers are welcome, memorial donations may be made to Woods Grove PFWB Church, 4009 Central Heights Road, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.
