MARY N. GRADY

June 24, 1938-July 22, 2006

SEVEN SPRINGS -- Mary Katherine Norwood Grady, 68, passed away peacefully and surrounded by her family on July 22, 2006.

Mary Katherine was born June 24, 1938, the daughter of Katherine Patrick and Stephen Garland Norwood in Rockingham, N.C.

Mary Katherine was passionate about serving her community. She served in the North Carolina House of Representatives from 1979 to 1981. She was a member of Seven Springs United Methodist Church for over 20 years. Over the years, she served as president of the Arts Council of Wayne County, president of the Seven Springs Historic Society, president of the Wayne County Historic Society, and president of the Burlington Junior Woman's Club. She actively assisted with coordinating flood relief efforts in Seven Springs in 1999. She was a former Miss Rockingham and participated in the Miss North Carolina pageant.

Mary Katherine enjoyed gardening, decorating, traveling and spending time with her friends and family.

She is survived by her husband, Richard R. Grady, of the home; daughter, Katherine Elizabeth Atkins and husband, Mark; grandson, Phillip and granddaughter, Victoria, all of Hickory; son, Stephen Pegg and wife, Debra, of Raleigh; daughter, Jennifer Harrison and husband, David, of Charlotte; brother, Bill Norwood and wife, Linda; and nephew, Justin, of Camden, S.C.; and niece, Katie Page of Charlotte. She is also survived by two stepsons, Dwight Grady, and Mack Grady and wife, Heather, along with six step-grandchildren.

Mary Katherine wished that memorial donations for the James McRae Grady Room be made to Albertson Community Library, 963 Drummersville Road, Seven Springs, N.C., 28578.

The family will receive visitors at the Grady home Monday (today) from 6 to 8 p.m. A service to celebrate her life will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 25, 2006, at Seven Springs United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Mary Katherine's family would like to thank their friends for their support.
