FREMONT -- Herman Lloyd West, 81, of 420 Old Black Creek Road, died Wednesday morning at his home.
A graveside service will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at Elmwood Cemetery in Fremont. Dr. Don Sauls will officiate.
Mr. West was born in Wayne County to the late Handy Lunzon West and Fannie Elizabeth Fulghum West. He was the former owner and operator of West Construction Company in Wilson.
He is survived by his wife, Myrtle Speight West; one son, Ray West of Fremont; six daughters, Beverly Brown of Southport, Linda Struck, Barbara Helms and Sally Tyndall of Fremont, Jean Lancaster of Burgaw and Annie Graham of Wilmington; two sisters, Mary Barnes of Lucama and Virginia Bass of Wilson; and 15 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Mr. West was preceded in death by four brothers, two sisters and one grandson.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 8:30 at Shackleford-Howell Funeral Home in Fremont, and other times at the residence.
