MICHAEL LANCASTER

May 10, 1952- July 18, 2006

Michael Emmette Lancaster, 54, of Middlesex, died Tuesday.

The funeral will include Masonic rites and will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Southern Nash High School. The Rev. Paul Tedder will officiate.

Mr. Lancaster graduated from Atlantic Christian College in 1975 and was the band director at Southern Nash High for 17 years. Under his leadership the Southern Nash Marching Firebirds won numerous awards and contests. He was formerly at Southern Wayne High School for three years and was a member of the North Carolina Bandmaster's Association. He was a Master Mason at Pikeville Harmony Lodge #340 and was also a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason.

He is survived by his wife, Pam Strickland Lancaster; a daughter, Leah Lancaster; three sons, Will Lancaster, Marcus Bailey and wife, Leigh Anne, all of Middlesex and Gabriel Lancaster and wife, Christina, of Richmond, Va.; two grandsons, Caleb Lancaster and Ethan Copeland of Richmond, Va.; his parents, J.R. and Esther Lancaster of Patetown; a sister, Theda Edge and husband, Glenn, of Goldsboro; a brother, Steve Lancaster and wife, Gail, of Patetown; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Winnie and Don Cobb of Bailey; several nieces and nephews; and hundreds of band students.

The family will receive friends this evening from 6:30 until 8:30 at Joyner's Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson, and other times at 8196 Strickland Road, Middlesex.
