CALYPSO -- Benjamin "Ben" Hugh Sellars, 78, of 201 E. Trade St., Calypso, died Saturday at the home of his daughter in Cary.

Born in Duplin County, he was the son of the late Ben C. and Mamie Parker Sellars and husband to the late Ruby Millard Sellars. A member of the Rones Chapel United Methodist Church, he was a charter member of the Mount Olive Rescue Squad, from which he retired with 20 years of service. Formerly employed with Wayne Glass and Tire Co. in Mount Olive, he was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and a member of the American Legion Post 103 in Mount Olive.

Memorial services will be 7 p.m. Monday at Rones Chapel United Methodist Church. Private committal services will be in Calypso Cemetery.

He is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Jo Duke of New Bern and Judy Vernon and David S. Crow of Cary; sisters, Martha Carol Cashwell of Mount Olive and Lillian "Susie" Beasley of Seven Springs; and grandchildren, Katie Crow and Kevin Crow.

Family members will greet friends Monday immediately following the service at Rones Chapel United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to Rones Chapel United Methodist Church, 138 Garner Chapel Road, Mount Olive, N.C. 27605 or Hospice of Wake County, 1300 St. Mary's St., Raleigh, N.C. 27605.

The family is being served by Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home and Crematory in Goldsboro.
