DARLENE KING

Sept. 2, 1958-July 4, 2006

Edna Darlene King, 47, of 244 Beston Drive, LaGrange, passed this earth with her loved ones by her bedside at Pitt County Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, July 4th at 2:30 p.m. after a courageous battle with illness that left her hospitalized since December 27, 2005.

Darlene was a single parent who loved her children and grandchild very, very, very much. Her other roles included being a loving daughter, granddaughter, sister, sister-in-law, mother-in-law, aunt, cousin, niece, and friend.

Special thanks goes to all the staff of the Trauma Intensive Care Unit (TICU) that worked tirelessly to care for our loved one and allowed our family the opportunity to be with her until the end. Thanks to all hospital staff at both Lenoir Memorial and Pitt County Memorial that encountered our loved one during her long hospital stay and provided her with quality medical care, compassion, and most of all, hope.

Darlene's constant hope was that she would be going home. And now we as a family can say that although she is not going home, she is going Home and will be free from pain and suffering.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Leslie H. King; paternal grandmother, Lula H. King; maternal grandfather, Earl G. Anderson; along with other very special relatives and friends that she had the opportunity to cross paths with during her life.

She is survived by three sons, Richard H. Mills, and wife, Stephanie, of the home; Joshua A. Torres, of the home; and Michael S. Torres, of the home; one grandchild, Ryan P. Mills, of the home; her loving parents, Jerry L. and Edna A. King, of LaGrange; one sister, Jerri L. Daffron and husband, DeWayne Daffron, of LaGrange; two brothers, Howard E. King and his girlfriend, Tonya Camp, of Trenton; Donald M. King and wife, Michelle A. King, of Ayden; maternal grandmother, Blanche S. Anderson, of Rosewood; numerous loving nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Along with her relatives, Darlene leaves to cherish her memories numerous friends who loved her in life and will cherish her in death. Although there are many friends and loved ones to include, she loved her special friends at New Hope Grocery Store; especially store owner, Brenda Taylor. Thanks to all the many employees and patrons of New Hope Grocery for being a part of her life.

A memorial service was held on Friday, July 7th at 4 p.m. at the home of her parents, Edna and Jerry King at 218 Beston Drive, LaGrange, N.C., 28551. Cremation services were provided by Howell Funeral Home and Crematory.

"Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me" (Psalm 23:4).
