Marshall Douglas Cox, 61, of 304 Riverbend Road, died suddenly on Friday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Cox was born in Wayne County to the late John Lee Cox and Ruth Herring Cox. He was a retired lab supervisor for the State of North Carolina. Mr. Cox was a graduate of Mount Olive College and of East Carolina University. He had a great love for nature and the outdoors and was an avid dove hunter. Mr. Cox was a member of Community Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon.

Funeral services will be held today at 7 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bobby Heath officiating. Interment will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Cox is survived by his wife, Geraldine "Gerri" Lancaster Cox; sons, Clifton Douglas Cox and wife, Sharon of Goldsboro; and Marshall David Cox of Eden Prairie, MN.; grandson, Caleb Heath Cox; sisters, Amy Aycock and husband, Elton of Grantham; and Dorothy Woods of Des Moines, Iowa; and brother, Kenneth Cox and wife, Brenda, of Grantham.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Quail Unlimited, 440 Herring Rd., Dudley, N.C. 28333.

The family will receive friends today following the service at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at his residence.
