LAGRANGE --George Matthew Palush Jr., 81, of 5569 Michaels Drive, died Saturday, June 24, 2006 at Pitt Memorial Hospital.

Known as the "man with the handlebar mustache" and the "man with the blue van." Mr. Palush was born in Grassflat, Pa., to the late George Matthew Palush Sr. and Anna Jetko Palush. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 56 years, Marie Hansen Palush; and a son, Donald Palush.

Mr. Palush served with the US Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He retired as an electrician with Ford Motor Company and was the operator of G&S Variety Store. He was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church and the Knights Of Columbus.

A mass to celebrate his life will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church.

Mr. Palush is survived by his wife, Sandra White Palush; six children, Nancy Litwitz of LaGrange, Gary Palush of Perthamboy, N.J., Allan Palush of Manahawkin, N.J., Kevin Palush of Fayetteville, Lori Palush of LaGrange and Vicki Lionelli of LaGrange; two brothers, Louis Palush of Idaho and James Palush of Pennsylvania; one sister, Ann Berardi of New Jersey; four stepchildren, Wendy Bates of Kinston, William Mozingo Jr. of Oregon, Frances Pollard of Kinston and Richard Mozingo of Kansas; 12 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, 13 step-grandchildren and six step-great grandchildren.

Another brother, Michael Palush, and two sisters, Elizabeth Conselina and Mary Gallos, preceded him in death.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 2 until 4 and 7 until 9 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of choice.
