CHARLES TOMLINSON

April 1, 1943-June 22, 2006

SMITHFIELD -- Charles David "Dave" Tomlinson, 63, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday.

He was born in Washington, D.C. to the late Charles E. and Alice B. Tomlinson. He was preceded in death by a brother, George Randall.

Dave was educated in Maryland and worked at body shops, honing his automotive skills. He invented and patented the Body Shop Tie Downs to assist in straightening frames. After moving to North Carolina, he started his own business "Top Cat Chemicals" in 1976, which has been very successful. He is also self-taught in carpentry, electrical and plumbing and has renovated several rental houses in the area.

Funeral services will be conducted today at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home in Selma with the Rev. Lee Colbert officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakland Presbyterian Church Cemetery in the Cleveland Community.

David was a very witty guy, a real pleasure to be around, always finding humor in everything around him.

He is survived by his wife/partner, Faye Britt, his sister Velma Lee Tomlinson of Raleigh, his brother Barry Phillip Tomlinson and wife, Joyce of Durham, and his niece Jill Youngblood Warren and husband, Philip of Raleigh. Also surviving are many cousins and the entire Britt clan who loved him dearly.

The family will receive friends today from 2-3 p.m. prior to the funeral service.

The family asks that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 1544, Smithfield, N.C. 27577.
