MARTIN SPEAR

Aug. 11, 1940-June 8, 2006

Martin Wesley Spear, 65, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Thursday after a courageous battle with cancer.

Wesley was born in Mont-gomery, Ala., to Mildred Corbitt Spear of Prattville, Ala., and the late Martin Spear. He graduated from Auburn University in Auburn, Ala., with a degree in engineering. He had just recently retired from Jeffery's Cabinet Company. He was a member of Freedom Baptist Church. In the past he served as a Sunday school teacher, youth worker and a deacon.

A celebration of his life will be held Monday at 7 p.m. at Freedom Baptist Church with Pastor David Jackson, Dr. Al Wright and Pastor Kevin Meadows officiating. A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Greenwood Cemetery in Montgomery, Ala.

In addition to his mother, Wesley is survived by his wife of 43 years Eva Bennett Spear; daughter, Suzanne Spear Whaley of Goldsboro; son, Wesley Clay Spear and wife Christina of Goldsboro; brother, Michael C. Spear and wife Ann, of Clearwater Fla.; and his four precious grandchildren whom he loved so much, Bethany Whaley, Brock Whaley, Lee Anne Spear, and Wesley Spear.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Freedom Baptist Church, 300 Country Day Road Goldsboro, N.C. 27530 or to the American Cancer Society, 930-B Wellness Drive, Greenville, N.C. 27834.

The family will receive friends Monday following the service in the fellowship hall and other times at his residence.
