ELIZABETH SMITH

Dec. 25, 1924-June 5, 2006

Elizabeth Hood Smith, 81, of Countryside Assisted Living in Pikeville, passed away Monday night at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

A graveside service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Wayne Memorial Park. Her brother, the Rev. Jean Hood, will officiate.

Mrs. Smith was born in Wayne County to the late Grover and Emma Rose Hood. She was a member of Jefferson United Methodist Church and was formerly employed with Cherry Hospital.

In addition to her brother, she is survived by one son, M.A. Pennington of Goldsboro; four daughters, Barbara Collins of Wilmington, Joan Byrd and Treva Lare of Goldsboro and Reva Ricks of San Antonio, Texas; three other brothers, Manfred Hood, James Hood and Horace Hood of Goldsboro; one sister, Ruth Bennett of Goldsboro; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will greet friends immediately following the graveside service.

Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.
