Retired United States Air Force Staff Sgt. Thomas Marion Lutz, 84, died Sunday at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Fayetteville.

The graveside service with full military honors will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery. The Rev. Ron Varner will officiate.

Staff Sgt. Lutz was born in Rushville, Mo., and was the son of the late Robert Lutz and Nellie Gardner Lutz. He retired from the United States Air Force on Feb. 27, 1968, with 23 years of service to his country, which included service during World War II. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Veterans of Foreign Wars and was also a member of the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Jean Swope Lutz; two sons, James Lutz and wife Grace of Goldsboro and Edward Lutz and wife Marilyn of Goldsboro; his daughters, Shirley Veith and husband, Richard, of South St. Paul, Minn., Gretchen Clairmont of Melbourne, Fla.; and Mary Kirby of Goldsboro; his daughter-in-law, Cathy Lutz; and 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son, William "Bill" Lee Lutz his brothers, Joe Lutz and Robert Lutz; and his son-in-law, Al Clairmont.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Richard Veith Jr., Thomas Daley, Ernest Daley Jr., Thomas Wayne Lutz, William Scott Lutz and Timothy Lutz.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 until 9 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home.
