POCAHUNTAS GRIFFIN

Pocahuntas Griffin, 70, of 1810 North George St., died Monday at her home.

Ms. Griffin was born in Pikeville to the late Leroy and Maddie Reid Mickens. She graduated from Pikeville High School in 1953 and married the late James Griffin in 1959. She lived in Philadelphia for many years, where she was a member of 59th Street Baptist Church and was employed by Local 195 for 22 years. She attended Pierce Junior College and was a member of the National Honor Society and Phi Theta Kappa. She moved back to Wayne County in 2005 and began attending Little Rock Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ.

She is survived by one daughter, Patrice M. Griffin of Washington, D.C., three sisters, Earnestine M. Coley and Alma Whitfield of Goldsboro and Dalphine Mundy of Philadelphia, Pa.; four brothers, Leroy Mickens, McCarlton Mickens, and Lenwood Mickens of Philadelphia, Pa., and Carnell Mickens of Goldsboro.

The funeral will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Goldsboro-Raleigh Assembly, Church of Christ Disciples of Christ , 214 Hooks River Road. Elder Ernest Watson will preside and Elder David Williams will deliver the eulogy.

The viewing hours will be from 4 until 8 p.m. on Friday at Howell Funeral Home in Goldsboro and from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday at the Goldsboro-Raleigh Assembly.
